Why I believe that the iOS vs Android debate is stupid and should stop

Anyone who is relatively well-informed about tech will know that there are many arguments to go with either iOS or Android. And by writing this blog, I am in no way trying to say that competition is bad. In fact, competition benefits all consumers as it allows other companies to keep renovating and refining their technologies to make better products and have relatively reasonable pricing. And if you think about it, companies need consumers like us to buy their products. So it's not like they can do whatever they want and ridiculously overcharge for their products. But unfortunately, this topic is not about which company is better, like Apple, Windows, Samsung, Google, my sponsor: myself, and others. This is about the mobile software war against iOS vs Android. Although I am aware of Ubuntu and other 3rd parties' mobile operating systems, this blog is going to be about the 2 most mass-produced operating systems. And for the purposes of this blog, I am not taking account of the marketing of both operating systems and their respective devices. This will more likely be a general overview of the software and the hardware.

As an Android user since I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (not tab S2), I think it would be fitting to start with the 2 main benefits I believe that iOS has: the integration and years of software support. In my opinion, iOS really gets the basics right and makes them better, like having iMessage, and macOS, great camera quality, at least 4 years or more worth in software updates which leads to overall better resale value for their devices (in my opinion), fluid screen animations, and overall Apple integration with iOS iPadOS. Not to mention the AMAZING A13 Bionic chip and the A12X chip in the iPad Pro. Although Android is catching up, they're still not as close as iOS devices, besides Google with their Pixel series for pictures. Samsung and Microsoft are trying out Phone Companion integration with Android/One UI and Windows. And it works, I like using it! But it still won't truly beat the Apples-to-Apples integration, pun intended. Now you can go along with the numerous security flaws and really nick-pick on iOS, at the end of the day, this is still the most popular operating system in the US, especially amongst Generation I (Generation Z). They simply get the basics right and know what their customers want. Overall, these are my main reasons why I believe iOS is superior over Android.

But like I said earlier, I've been an Android guy for 7+ years with my first phone being the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Now with my main iOS benefit out of the way, these are my 2 main benefits with using Android: customization and feature-sets. This is probably why I've stuck with Android for so long. Android suits me for everyday tasks. I can customize almost anything on my Galaxy Note 9. Widgets on the home screen, different launcher UI options through the Play Store, easier file management system that I can use on BOTH the phone and on a Windows PC, and more. And that's before rooting an Android phone, let alone jailbreaking an iPhone. And although due to the lack of 3+ years of timely software updates, they do tend to not keep their value as much as iOS devices. However, I'd argue that Android devices are just more functional. You can do a lot with an old Android phone, like turning it into a makeshift security camera or baby monitor, using it for Samsung DeX features, allowing car infotainment functionalities on an older car via Android Auto on Phone Screen or AutoMate, running game emulators, and more! The overall functionality is still maintained through Android compared to iOS. Not to mention the sheer variety of devices you can find. From a very cheapo $20 Android phone on Amazon to the photo king: the Google Pixel, to the ultimate power user's phone: the Samsung Galaxy Note. Not to mention the new Galaxy Fold line. Android tends to innovate more overtime than what iOS is currently doing. Overall, these are my main reasons why Android is superior to iOS.

Now for some inconsistencies. Although Samsung has the capability to make good ARM chips, Apple still takes the cake for good chip design as well as good software and hardware integration. Having even a single weakness in either software or hardware will cause a bad experience. Samsung devices are so feature-rich with Samsung DeX support and multitasking capabilities despite the power-disadvantage in terms of GeekBench and Antutu scores. iOS still has the best software-hardware efficiencies with power and battery life and refuses to put in things like more RAM and a bigger battery to make their phones even better and last longer over time. Apple still has a weird reason to keep using the lightning port over the superior USB-C and keeps on putting 5W chargers in with every iPhone. And last but not least, Google has yet to make any real reports with Fuscia, Android's successor, and a better competitor against iOS. In my opinion, these are just weird things I found in regards to Android, iOS, and their respective devices.

And now, here's my main question. Although competition is good for the consumer, why does the Android vs iOS debate still go on? As a tech enthusiast who really just enjoys technology, the whole Android vs iOS debate is just stupid. At the end of the day, no one truly cares and just goes back to the device that they are comfortable with. Matter of fact, I love the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 so much that I want another Samsung Galaxy Note because I know what I'm getting because I'm comfortable with it. Not to mention that I also want that 2020 iPhone SE. I love the concept of using an older design with a newer chip. But nonetheless, the Android VS iOS debate is stupid because everyone is different and has their own preferences. This is why we humans need options. There is no "one-size-fits-all" device for everyone.
